Use GeoManager in your Restaurant model:

class Restaurant(models.Model):
place = models.OneToOneField(Place, primary_key=True)
serves_hot_dogs = models.BooleanField()
serves_pizza = models.BooleanField()
objects = geomodels.GeoManager()
