Instead of 

test.py:

 

"

from mod_python import apache

       def index(reg):

            retutn "test successful!"

"

Try:

"

from mod_python import apache

def index(reg):

    return "test successful!"

"

 

Note that there is no space preceding the 'def'. Indentation is meaningful in python.
