All your files at your system are located in site-packages folder. Whatever you installed even Django itself is located there. In case you need to override any method you need to subclass the original model to alter its behavior. www.djangoproject.com provides to detail documentation about how to work with the source.
This is good approach to understand any framework by looking at its default code.
