Re: How to convert text file data into Excel file?

Not exactly right for a Django mailing list but I'll give it a shot 😉 I'd use the re (regular expression) module to parse the text file then use the csv module to output for Excel.

Hi Friends,

I am merging tow one project to another project, also install app in settings.py, but i error : RuntimeError: Model class django.contrib.contenttypes.models.ContentType doesn't declare an explicit app_label and isn't in an application in INSTALLED_APPS.

I suspect the clue is right there in the error message.

The model is probably being imported into a script being executed early, but django.contrib.contenttypes is either missing from INSTALLED_APPS or the contenttypes app is not yet "ready". If it is there, make sure the punctuation around it is valid (commas etc). It may also be related to the order of apps in the INSTALLED_APPS array althought I am not sure if that is an issue with contemporary Django anymore.

Re: How to create a copy of production sql database for development use?

If the database isn't too big, you could do a mysqldump in production then load that in MySQL on your development machine.

Dear all,

I have a Django currently running in production mode on a remote Linux server. While the production server is in use, I am developing new features on my local computer. Is there a way to create a copy of production server, so that when I develop new features I can test on a database environment as close to the production environment as possible?

On the production server the database is a mySQL database.

Thanks!

Which kind of help do you think anyone will be able to provide when you
haven't given any information at all?

If you don't learn how to communicate with other people you'll be stuck
forever.

Consider start by reading this:

Re: can any one help

Don't understand questions perfect.
But if your question is
you have list and make pdf
Then try to generate new pdf from items
You want the new pdf have only new items ( not include old items in new pdf ) ?

You can add( is_add_to_pdf ) bool field to your items and make it true when added to pdf
Then when generate other pdf exclude those items

I think you need help in writing a question. It is impossible to
understand what you are trying to do, so no one will be able to help you.

Maybe share the code you have so far and take some time to write a
question in proper English?

What you're looking for is something called geoip. To the best of my
knowledge there's no such thing build into Django (wouldn't really make
much sense anyway) but it should be trivial to query some geoip database
from your code and get a somewhat reliable idea on where that IP is
coming from.

There's no way that can be accurate but it might be useful for something
like detecting a locale (that the user can then change) or similar.

It is trivial to spoof a source IP address once you reach the Django
application part of the communication. That's more of a feature than a
bug actually because of things like proxies etc.

If you want to blacklist IPs you have to do that on a lower level. For a
single server running Linux something like netfilter/iptables might be
used but I'm sure there are some more convenient scripts/services etc.
that might be used. The main point is that you cannot do this from your
Django code.

Hope that helps you in the right direction.

Kasper Laudrup

Re: Location identification with login

Yes, that is certainly possible, although there is nothing built into Django itself.

Web servers (and proxies) both pass the IP address of the remote user, which can be recorded at login together with reference to the account. Using GeoIP you can associate this more or less reliably to a location, or at least a country.  Check out the django-geoip module on pipit.org to start (and there are others)

The general approach to tracking website visitiors uses this technique and is quite a useful metric. WRT logins it can be even more useful to track where a user signed up and where they typically log in from. This can trigger, e.g. email verification when a user logs in from an unexpected address.

Blacklisting by source IP though, I would argue is the job more suited to a reverse proxy, tcpwrappers or a firewall like Linux iptables.

David

Subject Location identification with login

Is there a mechanism in Django where we can identify the location of login? Any reading sources regarding this functionality would be much appreciated.

Along the same line, is there a way to prevent a login attempt if the location is within certain blacklisted IP subnets?

Thanks,

illegal? Against Copyright, and maybe not permitted by End-User License.

But illegal? You're not going to go to jail if you scrape IMDB, as an individual user. If you do it as part of a company, that company will probably be issued a cease and desist… And if they don't comply they'll get IP blocked, and possibly sued. But once again, I suspect that would be civil, and maybe not criminal? I'm not sure…

But IMDB can't do anything to prevent someone from scraping the web site, as a individual, as long as you don't draw attention to yourself.

Generally, as you may know, it is not very easy to get memory usage stats on Unix/Linux without specialised tooling.

However, in my experience, with default TCP settings, the kernel overhead plus whatever "typical" app overhead will not often exceed say 100 kB per connection.

Now, we had originally used an even smaller 1GB server than yours, and we did run out of memory, with attendant catastrophic failures. We were able to trace the failures to certain ORM queries on tables with large JSONB columns (in the MB range). Once we addressed that, we were fine. At no point, even with our usage  pattern of connect per message (!!!) , did sockets usage even warrant a second thought.

I don't know what to loop or iterate over to get all the pets, first off. I know how to add them, I think, that would just be context[pet id or something] = <pet object instance>. Secondly, I'm assuming this function, get_context_data, goes in the models file. I understand how to retrieve context from the dictionary, you explained that as well as the professor in the course I took on Django, so no problems there (so far).

I think that's it, actually.

Thanks in advance, hugely appreciate any help anyone can offer.

You'll need to do 2 things:

1. Add the pet(s) you want to the template context, probably by implementing get_context_data[1].

2. Change your template to use the pet from the template context instead of the hard code pet, Mocha. Assuming your pet in the template context is named 'pet':

<a href="{% url 'pet_details' slug=pet.slug %}">Pet Profile: {{ pet.name }}</a>

...alternatively since you've implemented get_absolute_url:

<a href="{{ pet.get_absolute_url }}">Pet Profile: {{ pet.name }}</a>

Have you tried looking into what the error message informs you to do?

Does PMSdetails_data/urls.py have any URL patterns in it?

Kind regards,

Re: Resolving my display

Good day, i'm just beginning to learn django. Kindly help resolve this error.

What error are you experiencing, since there's no obvious issue in the screen capture that I see?

as_* helpers (e.g. as_p as_div) for display (read "not in a form")

Hello,

I've used the as_p helper in the Forms to get success, however I'd love to use a similar helper for display purposes.  The main feature I like is that the as_p helper allows me to build a template quickly and I can change the model as needed and not have to update the template.

Does anyone know of a non-form helper like as_p?

Same question posted on stackoverflow here

Thanks,

Sam Brown

I can't yet work out whether this is a Django bug or how I'm using model constraints... Upgraded from 4.0.8 to 4.1.4 and have hit this issue when saving this model in the admin. I'd read in the release notes that these constraints would be validated on model save, and that's the code that's leading to this exception. If it's not something I've done, it seems ArrayField isn't working with this new validation of my condition. The same happens for Q(phone_numbers__len__gte=0), and the error disappears if I comment out this condition. It seems the generated code might be wrong, as I see 12 "%s" and only 11 elements in params. All it's trying to do is ensure that an empty list isn't considered unique.

Here's the failing model:

phone_numbers = ArrayField(models.CharField(max_length=200), default=list, blank=True)

class Meta:
    constraints = [
        models.UniqueConstraint(
           fields=['phone_numbers'],
           condition=~Q(phone_numbers__len=0),
           name='unique_email_phones',
        ),
    ]
)
