:) It was as simple as easy_install gunicorn
then switch to the app directory and
ran
gunicorn_django --daemon --pid djpid --bind=127.0.0.1:8001
I have a daemonized process at localhost:8001
and to shut it down
kill $(cat djpid) ## Assuming still in the app directory
I wish it could be that easy on hostmonster ....
thanks again carlos :: good tip
