Hmm, all depends what you're trying to achieve. I personally avoid
conventional threading in Python from the outset, and use Stackless
instead.

Have you possibly considered using Twisted (see
http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ and
http://twistedmatrix.com/documents/current/core/examples/)
